What is MIT Today?

Getting Things Done

The basic concept about Getting Things Done is to have a clean state of your mind every day to get things done. You do it by having a system to store your "important things" and get rid of the "clutters". At any given time, the only thing you need to worry about is doing the next action in your Action List.

You start with thinking about your goal, then split it to smaller, doable tasks. Write them on your Action List. Then just do it and write them off your list.

Life is like a jar of pebbles

Your Life Goals

When you have so many things to do, it's easy to forget what you need to prioritize. Life is like a jar of pebbles. If we fill it first with sand, there's no room for us to place the big rocks. We should fill it with the big rocks first, then the smaller stones, then with the pebbles, then with sand, and with water. That's when it's really full.

Most Important Task Today

You have some really important things that you want to achieve in life, that are really worth fighting for. They're the ones you need to put on your jar first. Think of your life goals and the big idea of what you need to do to achieve them. Then write smaller goals for the week/month (they're like your big rocks), and every day think of an actionable task to achieve that. That's your most important task today. That's the number one priority in your Action List, the one that if you get it done today, you're one step closer to your life goals.

Cross the Mountain

All right, now you're ready to write my most important tasks today. Do you need to write your goals first? Well it will really help, cause that's what this is all about, you know, to help you achieve your goals. If you don't know what your goals are, how do you decide what to do? OK, so if you don't know your goals, maybe your MIT today is to think about it and write them! :) For starters, pick one thing (or several!) that is really important to you, that you really want it to happen for some time but never got the time to do it. One does not cross the mountain in a giant single step, you know, one does it by doing a lot of small steps. So that's what your MIT today will do. Small steps to cross the mountain.

The 30 Days Challenge

All this is about habit. Try giving yourself a challenge of writing your most important task every day, for 30 days. Spend 15 minutes in the morning to write your MIT Today, and review them on the evening. Then write notes on what you need to follow up next. You'll find yourself reaching your dreams in no time.

PS: You don't really need to use this site to do it, you know, just grab a pen and paper and start writing. But if you want to make sure you write your MIT every day, this system will remind you to do it and again remind you to review your progress. To find out more about this system, click here.
